FLIPPIN’ wonderful! Leicester City’s in-form squad claimed their prize in the form of a batch of pizzas – as promised by boss Claudio Ranieri – after beating Crystal Palace at the weekend and – crucially – keeping a clean sheet!
Manager Ranieri (pictured with Joe Dodoo (left) and Ben Chilwell at Peter Pizzeria in Loughborough) made good on his promise to provide his players with some fine Italian cuisine if they were able to rise to the challenge of keeping their goals against column intact.
The Foxes, who are flying high in the Premier League at the moment and sit a lofty fifth in the table after 10 games, defeated Palace 1-0 to secure their first shut-out of the season.
Striker Jamie Vardy, in red-hot form at present, scored the only goal of the game, pouncing on a sloppy Brede Hangeland error, before lifting the ball over stranded Eagles goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.
Ranieri treated his squad to a meal out at Loughborough’s Peter Pizzeria. The players not only tucked in, they were given a chance to make some of the pizzas themselves. And the club released these shots themselves, swiftly pounced upon and posted online,
Foxes stopper Kasper Schmeichel certainly looked in his element, flipping the dough expertly as an awestruck Marc Albrighton and Ritchie De Laet watched on.
Ranieri, beaming after his side beat Palace, said: ‘I pay. They deserve this pizza and today we will. It’s good to stay together.
‘It was a very tough game against Palace – it’s good. I hope they enjoy it today. I pay.’
But the Italian was keen to point out that alcohol was not allowed: ‘Drink? Drink water, yes!’
On the mood in the Leicester camp, Ranieri added: ‘It’s the team spirit and they enjoy training. They know they can work hard and enjoy. A little bit of luck is important.
‘Luck is the salt, the fans are the tomato – with no tomato there is no pizza.’

And talking of pizzas….
Here is Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera leaving a Pizza Express on Thursday afternoon. Not sure the likes of Arsene Wenger would approve – but surely a little of what you fancy does you good? Maybe it was an attempt to forget United’s shocking League Cup humiliation at the hands of Middlesbrough in midweek.
Still Herrera could hardly be blamed as he was an unused substitute all night.
Herrera headed to Pizza Express with a friend in Cheshire before heading home ahead of Saturday’s trip to London to face Crystal Palace.
