THE Wayne Rooney ‘should I stay or should I go’ debate rumbles on. Everton would welcome him back in a heartbeat.

Forget a Chinese takeaway; you know you prefer a Lancashire hot pot!

Everton’s director of football Steve Walsh hit the nail on the head when he said on Sky Sports this morning…why wouldn’t we want Wayne to come back to this football club?

Walsh reckons Rooney has got another three years of Premier League football in him, at least. So why not spend them back at Goodison?

“He is one of England’s greatest ever players so why would we not be interested in him,” said Walsh, who quipped ‘at least we would sell a whole lot of shirts’!

Walsh believes Rooney could add so much to the Everton side, labelling him ‘a class act’.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman would seem to agree and is open to the prospect of the prodigal son returning to Merseyside.

He would welcome him with open arms, as would the fans, although he says Rooney is right to stay at United for the time being.

As for the future, Koeman says on Sky: “He is one of the players that can make Everton stronger. It is up to Manchester United, but he is welcome to come back to Everton FC.”
