MANCHESTER United are reportedly ready to reach a financial settlement with Wayne Rooney which would allow the England man to leave on a free in the summer.
There has been some drivel written in the papers today – this is up there with the best; or worst.
Yes, it’s true that Rooney is wanted by Everton who would take him back in a heartbeat.
But who really knows the financial implications. The player; the club; the owners; the agent. The papers know nothing.
Rooney, who is wanted at his old club Everton, has a contract at United until 2019 worth around £250,000-a-week, so they say.
Does anyone, other than Rooney and his close sources, know how much he is earning? Of course, we don’t.
Here we go with even more rubbish.
With around £26million owed to Rooney in his contract before tax it’s unlikely United would pay up the full value, but they are apparently ready to ‘compensate’ him and let him leave on a free.
Says who? And who knows the details of Rooney’s contract? And why should they reveal details?
They will also not ‘insist on any clauses restricting him from joining a Premier League rival’, according to the report.
There’s every chance he will go back to Everton – as we said yesterday, the only English club he would ever go to – but we will never know what any contract might involve.
And talk of earning £750,000 a week in China is nonsense also. Please tell me…where do you get these figures from? Hearsay!
