WITH the transfer window opening today, the rumour mill has gone into overdrive – no surprise there!
No shock either that Diego Costa is top of the list of speculation stories doing the rounds. Romelu Lukaku too.
Personally, I think Antonio Conte would be mad to get rid of Costa – despite their obvious differences.
It has been suggested this morning that Costa has been informed BY TEXT that he is no longer wanted at the Bridge.
If this is the case, and we doubt it, that would be pretty poor form on the part of the West London club.
Certainly on the part of Conte. If stories are true.
We know that AC Milan are interested in the Chelsea striker and understand that a £40million bid is on the table.
Costa though wants to stay at Chelsea and there are also stories knocking about today that the 28-year-old Spanish international has ‘pleaded’ with Roman Abramovich to keep him at the club.
It all seems to be a bit of a mess, and until we hear from the player/the manager/the club the situation will remain unclear.
One thing’s for sure; we are unlikely to hear from the silent owner!
Chelsea fans deserve to know the truth, however. They pay their money – but don’t have their choice.
With Lukaku’s announcement that he wants to be playing Champions League football next season, it would seem a Bridge return is on the cards.
All of which begs the question – why did they get rid of him in the first place?
At least the £40m sale of Costa, if it happens, will provide some sort of compensation. Funny old game, innit? As one Chelsea legend once said.
