YOU have to worry for Daniel Sturridge – another injury problem and the season hasn’t even started yet.

As we have said before, on numerous occasions here on zapsportz, the Liverpool striker – fit and well – is as good as any in the Premier League.

Reds fans can only hope that this latest setback is only a minor hic-cup. The guy deserves a break after all his injury problems.

Sturridge scored Liverpool’s third goal in the 3-0 Audi Cup win against Bayern Munich but lasted just 15 minutes before pulling up with a thigh injury.

Jurgen Klopp says, and hopes, that the injury is not too serious and Sturridge will be ready for the start of the Premier League season.

But it must be a worry for the player. Mentally as much as physically.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah also scored in the emphatic win over Bayern as Liverpool set up a final against Atletico Madrid later today.

But despite the victory, which bodes well for the new season, the main concern was over Sturridge who has managed just 46 league appearances in the last three seasons.

Liverpool need him fit and firing on all cylinders if they are to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title. He is that important.

Failing that, Klopp will need to find another striker capable of playing 40 games a season – and scoring 20 goals in the process.

A fit Sturridge is a fantastic asset; an unfit Sturridge is a liability. We wish him well in his latest rehabilitation. Hopefully the last.

Speaking after the match, Klopp told the gathered media and as quoted on the BBC Sport website – http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40794043

“He hurt his thigh. He has really prepared well, really well, so I hope this is just a small injury and that he can play again soon.”
