ROMAN Abramovich is preparing to make his move after it has been revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo held a secret meeting with PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi to discuss a world-record move from Real Madrid on a yacht in Ibiza.
The Portugal skipper is enjoying a break on the Spanish island following his country’s run to the Confederations Cup semi-finals. He missed the third-place play-off to spend time with his new-born twins.
Zapsportz.com broke the story that Chelsea are finally ready to make their move after being snubbed by their former striker Romelu Lukaku.
Manchester United, Chelsea and PSG have been linked with Ronaldo all summer ever since it was suggested he would quit Real maid over his tax case.
Chelsea’s involvement has been far-fetched because of their policy not to bring in raging players, irrespective of how good they are – but Abramovich might now make an exception for Ronaldo after events leading to Lukaku going Old Trafford.
Chelsea will match the transfer fee Real Madrid are looking plus the financial package to the player would be a never-to-be-beaten half a BILLION pounds as put on the table by PSG.
Abramovich has been deeply offended and hurt by Lukaku saying he did not think twice about agreeing to join United when the opportunity arose, describing Old Trafford as the ‘biggest club in the world’.
United reached an agreement with Everton to sign the 24-year-old in a deal worth eventually £90 million, which Chelsea would have topped, but the paler opted to sign for Jose Mourinho, even though the manager sent him packing at the Bridge.
The former Chelsea player, who had also been relentlessly chased by the Blues this summer, added of his impending move to United: “I’m really delighted to hopefully be part of their history.
“Who would say no to the biggest club in the world? The best stadium in England, the best fans, it’s the perfect opportunity.
“I always said that I wanted to play for a team that was challenging for every trophy that there is, and I think Manchester United at the minute wants to be that dominant team, that dominant force.”
That has hit at the heart of Abramovich’s desire to make Chelsea into one of the most dominant clubs in world football.
Ronaldo wants to quit Spain over tax fraud allegations, a decision that has alerted suitors all over the football globe, and over the last 24 hours there have been rumours he will stay in Madrid, even if it is only for one more year.
Antonio Conte has been offered a bumper new contract, but hasn’t signed it, and has been courted by Inter Milan, and will be concerned that Lukaku thinks it’s a far better option to go to United.
Conte has sent Diego Costa a text saying he does not want the tempestuous and sometimes unreliable striker next season, and won’t want to back down, but equally he needs some new strike power.
The fans will be able to accept the loss of Costa if they can capture Ronaldo which would be a global event and immediately install Chelsea as one of the favourites for the Champions League.
Chelsea will recoup much of their outlay in commercial revenues generated by currently the greatest player on earth, but more importantly by the player with the greatest commercial pulling power.
