CHELSEA manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he will not make a move to sign Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann now that he has lined up a move to bring Ramadel Falcao to Stamford Bridge.
Reports in Spain have suggested for several weeks that the Premier League champions are preparing a summer bid for the 24-year-old Griezmann, who scored 22 goals in La Liga this season,
He has a €65 million buy-out clause in his contract and there is no doubt he was on Chelsea’s radar, but moves for Falcao, having been released by Manchester Untied and sent back to Monaco after a year’s loan, has changed Mourinho’s plans.
Chelsea can buy Falco outright for a cut price £25 million or even alone him for a year with a view to a permanent transfer.
So, now Mourinho, on Chelsea’s end-of-season tour of Australia, has ruled out any bid for Griezmann.
“Griezmann is a great striker but is not within our objectives to strengthen the squad for next season. We are not interested,” Mourinho is quoted in the Evening Standard.
