FOOTBALLERS’ preparations for games take on many weird and wonderful forms.
For top keeper Tom Heaton it revolves not just around rigorous training ground routines – but also playing computer games. Seems to work for him.
The Burnley No.1 is after all one of the top shot stoppers in the Premier League.
“I was given a Nintendo DS game called Sight Training to get my eyes warmed up. It’s routine for me and something I have stuck to before every game,” said Tom, who was promoting the brand new Precision Heat goalkeeping glove range at the Pro:Direct Store in London.
The England international has enjoyed a great season so far (just don’t mention Lincoln and the FA Cup) and his profile has risen as a result.

The Clarets keeper knows he still has is a long way to go but reckons this has been his best season so far. England recognition has been an unbelievable added bonus.
Keeping Burnley as high up the Premier League table – and away from danger – is his No.1 priority though.
Heaton’s form has attracted the interest of the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Everton (against him he had three clean sheets). But his level head has not been turned.
He signed a new four-year deal last summer, and says: “The only thing that matters to me is performing week-in, week-out for Burnley.”
Sean Dyche and the Clarets are in safe hands.
