Portuguese publication A Bola say the former Manchester United striker is ‘outraged’ after being accused of evading €14.7million in tax by Spanish prosecutors.
The prosecutors’ office in Madrid this week confirmed they had filed a lawsuit against the 32-year-old whose representatives have already denied the claims.
Haven’t we heard this sort of story before? Didn’t we go down the same route with a certain Lionel Messi?
The report also claims that Ronaldo’s decision to leave the La Liga champions is ‘irreversible’ and the player has already told Real Madrid president Florentino Perez he wants out.
Ronaldo posted an Instagram image yesterday saying ‘sometimes the best answer is to be quiet’ whilst he and his representatives denied the allegations, and insisted the player has a ‘clear conscience’.
What is not clear is where Ronaldo’s future lies. Does he really want to leave Real Madrid – the best club in the world? Does he really think a return to Manchester United is a positive option?
He signed a five-year contract extension in November after helping Real to the Champions League and La Liga titles, scoring 42 goals along the way.
Currently on international duty with Portugal as the national team make their final preparations for this summer’s Confederations Cup, we should learn more from the great man in the next day or so.
Our view is that this will all blow over; Ronaldo will stay with Real – and continue to be a club legend.
