PABLO Zabaleta, one of the most popular Manchester City players of the modern era, was given an emotional and fitting send off by the club he has served so diligently for the last nine years.
Players, past and present, and every single City fan paid tribute to the long-serving defender after his final game at the Etihad last night.
When Argentine Zabaleta joined the club in 2008 he told his partner, now wife, that the move from South America to Manchester was only a temporary one – two or three years at most.
Nine years on and he is about the pull on the light blue of City for the final time, bowing out a hero who will be welcomed back to this side of Manchester with open arms.
In addition to a framed shirt bearing his name and ‘333’ on the back – the number of games he has played for the club – he was also given a special ‘blue ticket’ allowing to watch any City game at the Etihad…for life.
Oh, and he also received a first aid kit from the club doctor and physio who have treated him on numerous occasions. He saw the funny side.
