England manager Gareth Southgate, three Arsenal managers, Arsene Wenger, George Graham and Terry Neill, illuminate the career of Kenny Sansom in his Legends’ Lives documentary film premiered today at the Sanctum Soho Hotel.
An array of footballing legends will attend the prestigious film premiere, followed by five course Arsenal/England/Crystal Palace themed dinner prepared by the hotels two master chefs.
Perry Groves, Paul Davis, Gus Caesar, Ian Allinson, the first FIFA licenced agent Jerome Anderson, and possibly Alan Smith, are among those attending tonight’s first screening of the 55 minute film.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parrish has a table, although he cannot personally attend. Arsenal FC are attending the private VIP screening, while the former wife of Palace owner Ron Noades, Novello, is flying in from Barbados.
In the Kenny Sansom – Legends’ Lives documentary Southgate, himself a Crystal Palace legend, is hugely complimentary toward the one time England left back, and wishes him a speedy recovery in trying to overcome his chronic alcoholism.
Regrettably Sansom will miss his own ‘red carpet’ premiere, as he announced just hours before his big event that he is at a private location to save himself from his chronic alcoholism and gambling addiction.
After a month sober making the documentary of his life, the former England, Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United left back, lapsed to such depths that he was advised by medical experts to book into a specialist detox facility, his final chance to find a solution after being in numerous detox facilities in the past.
Sansom made a statement on Twitter announcing that he won’t be attending the prestigious VIP screening of his life story:
In tonigh’ts fund raising programme, Sansom says: “Hi Everyone. Sorry I can’t be there tonight. I’m getting some long-term professional treatment and hopefully the next time you see me, I’ll be in great shape. I had a lot of fun working on my life story DVD, so I hope you all enjoy it and have a great night. Thanks everyone.”
The documentary contains exclusive footage of Sansom filmed at The Emirates, Highbury, Wembley and at Selhurst Park.
