In the build-up to Manchester United’s second goal at Old Trafford the Blues captain displayed a bizarrely timed piece of sportsmanship.
Lingard was on the floor and despite the ball being in play and United on the attack, Cahill put out his hand to help his England team-mate off the turf.

Just seconds later, and with the Chelsea defence very deep inside their own box, Ander Herrera rifled a deflected shot into the net.
Chelsea fans were furious with Cahill for taking his focus off his defensive duties to help out his rival.
