Zapsportz team leader Glenn Hoddle praises Leicester interim boss Craig Shakespeare as the Foxes fight back.
In his Mail on Sunday column, the former England manager said…
“It was great to see an English coach give such an assured performance in a Champions League quarter-final against an accomplished club in Atletico Madrid.
When I compare how Leicester set up away from home against Sevilla under Claudio Ranieri and the contrast with how they set up against Atletico, you have to say it is a great credit to Craig Shakespeare.
Craig Shakespeare set up his Leicester side to deliver an accomplished performance in Madrid.
Even though Leicester came away with a good result in the 2-1 defeat in Seville, they got away with it really. There was nothing like the shape and organisation to give you confidence.
By contrast on Wednesday night, every Leicester player knew precisely what they were doing against Atletico.
Their defensive performance was a masterclass and the goal they conceded was not even a penalty. If they do the same in the second leg I have a feeling they can take that game to extra time.
Imagine what the King Power Stadium is going to sound like that night? And think what Leicester are like when they get the sniff of something seemingly incredible.
They can put themselves in sight of a Champions League semi-final. Maybe this season can yet be almost as extraordinary as last year.”
