Chelsea fans can bid farewell to Diego Costa – he’s going back to Atletico Madrid…eventually!

DIEGO Costa never ceases to amaze – or entertain. He is football’s Mr Marmite; you either love him or loathe him.

Personally, I love him. He’s got the talent to match his attitude – and I like that in a player. Not sure his managers do.

It seems as though he has set his heart on a return to Spain after posing in an Atletico Madrid shirt – and posting on Instagram.

The message can surely not be more clear – he wants out!

Controversial Costa – the ‘Angry Man’ – has fallen out with Antonio Conte, for whatever reason, and feels his time is up at the Bridge.

He wants to return to former club Atletico, who are determined to make it happen. But there’s a snag.

Because of a transfer embargo imposed on the Spanish club, they cannot sign any players until the new year.

So what does Diego do in the meantime?

Chelsea boss Conte clearly doesn’t want to keep a player who is hell bent on leaving, and he would rather get rid sooner rather than later.

Costa chaos could lead to carnage and no-nonsense boss Conte will not settle for that. So maybe a loan deal somewhere – maybe Besiktas – could be the answer.

Chelsea fans will not be happy to see their top striker and leading scorer go, especially after the club missed out on Romelu Lukaku, so the pot is boiling.

Especially with Conte confirming – via an SMS message – that Costa does not figure in his plans for next season.

It has been suggested in various papers today that Christian Benteke is on Conte’s hit list as a replacement for Costa.

He’s happy enough at Palace who are reluctant to sell and, quite frankly, he’s not in the same league as Costa. Too unpredictable. Not what Chelsea need.
