ARSENAL and England legend Kenny Sansom has been in Thailand in a final bid to save his life from alcohol abuse and declared: “I have not taken a drink for 45 days and I don’t need one.”
Back from his secret location where he has undergone alternative treatments and therapy after failing to find a cure at eight institutions in the UK and Ireland, the former Arsenal, England and Newcastle United star will be making his first public appearance for some time on FA Cup Final eve at the Wembley Hilton Hotel.
Arguably England and Arsenal’s greatest-ever left back was on the verge of becoming another George Best until he was whisked away to Thailand for meditation, detox and specialist therapy.
In an exclusive interview Sansom, who has just returned home from his Thai retreat, says: “I will be at the Hilton in Wembley for this event the day before the Cup Final, I am going to be there.
“I know I’ve let a lot of people down in the past and not turned up and that’s because I’ve been seriously ill.
“Now I want to be there at Wembley and hopefully the fans will enjoy my company again, and I’ve got plenty to tell them about!
“I’ve been away a long time, its been 45 days without a drink, and I’ve not thought about a drink, I don’t need a drink.
“I had some great advice, some great treatments and I have learned some things to ensure that I stay away form drink and can get my life back on track after a long time.
“I’m in a good place and I want to stay in a good place, and want to see people again and want to talk to people again about football.”
* Kenny Sansom and Kerry Dixon’s Legends Lives films will be screened at lunch and at dinner on Friday May 26th at the Hilton Wembley, with the FA Cup there for a picture opportunity. Alan Hudson, who played for both Arsenal and Chelsea, will be joining Dixon and Sansom at the Legends Livespersonal appearances throughout the day.
